Spaces

“Sacred spaces can be created in any environment.” - Christy Turlington

Covid-19 has completely changed our lives, especially our homes. We have been spending more time indoors/home because of the pandemic. Our domestic space has turned into multi-functional spaces: an office, a recreation zone, a gym, a shared room (if you don’t live alone), a warehouse and lastly a home to rest.

Working from home has been an eye-opener. As to how much time of our day, it’s allocated to work, and space it takes over our houses. Before Covid-19, we could find refugee at home; we would come home and disconnect from work. Those times are gone… at least for now.

As the most adaptable creatures on earth, we’ve learned that our surroundings are essential and how important is the functionality of every item in every corner of our homes. Now that we need to create a sacred space where we can relax and reboot, not much is required to complete our sacred space. It’s not about size or expensive décor. It’s about creativity and surrounding ourselves of what makes us feel relax and calm: candles and incenses, some plants and rocks, cushions, photographs, adequate ventilation, light, among others.

During this month, we will share the things that have inspired us to re-create our living spaces and the lessons we have learned to cope with the uncertainty of these times. That even though they have been difficult, Christy Turlington was right, we still can create sacred spaces, even with Covid-19 in our lives.

These are the new websites/pages we have found for inspiration (besides Pinterest) are the ones with the most relatable and feasible content:

  • Apartment Therapy: This is one of our favourite design blogs because their content is from regular people who have Architectural Digest-like homes with what they have. In AT you can take inspiration from a stylish dark blue rental apartment in NYC to Pro tips to do a Room Makeover.

  • Ikea Hackers: For the people who love to do DIY projects or who finds soothing to watch the before and after pictures, this is the place!

  • Kmart by you: Home styling on a budget? Kmart has gems to make your home look refreshed and styled without spending too much. This IG page shares how the pieces you see online can look well in real living spaces.

Have fun making your home prettier!

Love,
